Gordon College was founded in Boston in 1889 as a missionary training institute. It was named for its founder, the Rev. Dr. A. J. Gordon, a then-famous Boston preacher. In 1955, Gordon moved to its Wenham, Massachusetts, campus, and in 1985 it merged with another Christian institution, Barrington College.
