Auburn University

Introduction: Throwback

The Methodist Church opened East Alabama Male College in 1859 but had to close it two years later with the outbreak of the Civil War. The college reopened in 1866 in financial shambles. In 1872, the Methodists transferred control to the state of Alabama, and after several name changes the school ended up as Auburn University.
